The Spousal Sponsorship Program allows Canadian citizens and permanent residents to sponsor their spouse or partner for permanent residence in Canada. This immigration pathway helps families reunite and build their lives together in Canada.
Through this program, eligible sponsors can bring their spouse, common-law partner, or conjugal partner to Canada and support them in becoming permanent residents. Every year, Canada welcomes thousands of families through this family reunification initiative.
Sponsors must demonstrate that they are able to financially support their partner and ensure that their basic needs are met during the sponsorship period.

To sponsor your spouse or partner for permanent residence, you must meet the following conditions.
The sponsor must be at least 18 years old.
You must be one of the following:
Sponsors must be living in Canada. Canadian citizens living abroad may also sponsor their spouse if they plan to return to Canada once the application is approved.
Sponsors must be able to support themselves, their partner, and any dependent children without relying on social assistance, except in cases of disability benefits.
Sponsors must demonstrate that they can provide financial support to their partner and ensure their basic living needs are met.
When sponsoring a spouse or partner, the sponsor must sign an undertaking agreement with the Canadian government. This agreement confirms the sponsor’s responsibility to financially support the sponsored person.
